i-did offers different types of felt: i-felt, you-felt, and biobased-felt.

i-felt is our collection of felt made from recycled textiles. With you-felt, we create felt from organizations' own discarded textiles. Our biobased-felt collection currently consists of jute felt from used coffee sacks and wool felt from Dutch sheep's wool.

i-felt is made from textiles that are no longer suitable for reuse. The textiles are collected and sorted in the Netherlands and subsequently processed into new felt at the i-did Factory. For this, we use, among other things, textiles from clothing donation bins and decommissioned uniforms from organizations such as KLM and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.

The material consists of a varying blend of textile fibers, such as cotton, polyester, wool, and nylon. i-felt consists of 94.5% recycled material.

Our i-felt and jute felt is approximately 2.5 mm thick. Our wool felt is approximately 4 mm thick. A tolerance of ±15% applies to the thickness.

The felt is available in widths of 70, 90, 110, 140 and 180 cm. A full roll is 35 meters long.

Yes. For i-felt, a fire-retardant treatment is optional. Wool felt is naturally fire-retardant and can also be treated optionally. For jute felt, the possibilities are currently being investigated.

Our felt is suitable for various applications. i-felt can be used for purposes including wall covering, window covering, upholstery—with the exception of seating surfaces—as well as material for utility items and decoration.

In addition, our felt forms the basis for various acoustic interior products and lifestyle products from i-did.

i-felt can be cut with a sharp knife or laser and trimmed with fabric scissors. Sewing, die-cutting, and heat transfer printing are also possible.

Yes. Our felt is suitable for use as wall covering.

When gluing, we recommend using a strong adhesive and following the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. Keep the weight of the felt in mind. On slanted walls, additional fastening may be required. For porous or soft surfaces, a primer may be necessary.

Yes. i-felt and jute felt contribute to good sound absorption. Wool felt has some acoustic properties of its own, approximately αw 0.2. The final acoustic performance always depends on the application.

Would you like to improve the acoustics in a room? i-did also offers complete acoustic interior products in which our felt is used.

Yes. We encourage the reuse and recycling of textiles. Felt and lifestyle products made from felt can be placed in textile collection bins. For interior products, it may be better to disassemble the product first and recycle the various components separately.

In addition, i-did is working on options to take back products and process them into new products.

Yes. The felt can be ironed. We do this ourselves regularly to make the material extra smooth.

Do you have a stain on your felt? Try removing it first with a damp cloth.

If that is not enough, it is best to hand wash the felt or felt product. If you still want to use a washing machine, choose a short, cold wash cycle without spinning. Keep in mind that regular washing can weaken the felt. Let the felt dry flat to prevent deformation.

No, it is not possible to donate individual textiles to i-did. We work with fixed textile streams.

Would you like to have your organization's discarded textiles processed into new felt? This is possible through a you-felt project. We determine in advance how much textile is needed for the desired end product.

Yes. Since 2022, i-did has had its own felt factory in The Hague: the i-did Factory. There, we produce high-quality felt from recycled textiles and other residual flows.

Textiles that are no longer suitable for reuse are collected and sorted. At the i-did Factory, the textiles are first processed into fibers. These fibers are then processed into new felt using needle-punching.

Most i-felt colors are made from worn and washed textiles that are sorted by color in the Netherlands. This creates the characteristic heathered effect and means that minor color variations may occur.

For i-felt, we use textiles collected and sorted in the Netherlands, including worn-out consumer textiles and discarded corporate clothing. For you-felt, we use organizations' own textile waste. In addition, we process biobased residual flows, such as used jute coffee sacks and Dutch sheep's wool.

Yes. Our factory can process not only pure material streams, but also mixed textile streams. This allows us to give a new purpose to textiles that are often more difficult to recycle.

Whether a specific textile stream is suitable depends on the material and its composition.

At i-did, we create work for people who have been out of the workforce for a long time or have never worked before. They contribute to the production of our materials and products, gaining the opportunity to develop new skills and acquire work experience.

In this way, we combine material reuse with social employment.

By reusing existing textile streams, fewer new raw materials are needed. In doing so, we save on textiles, water, and CO₂, and extend the lifespan of existing materials.

Per square meter of felt, our brochure states a saving of approximately 0.31 kg of textile, 414 liters of water, and 15.5 kg of CO₂.

Our social impact is, among other things, made transparent through the Social Handprint. For 2024, the social impact of i-did was valued at €3,002,000, or €78,000 per FTE.

For instance, hot-melt adhesive is used in several products, allowing materials to be separated again at a later stage.
