biobased felt
Biobased felt from i-did
Made from natural waste flows
Our biobased felt is made from natural waste streams that i-did transforms into high-quality felt. Think wool from the carpet industry, Dutch shorn wool, and used coffee bags. Materials often considered waste products are thus given a new and sustainable purpose.
Within our collection, we work with various material streams, from recycled textiles to biobased fibers. With biobased felt, we choose natural raw materials with strong, functional properties and a distinctive appearance. The result is a versatile material that lends itself well to interior applications such as wall coverings, acoustic solutions, and decorative applications.
Our biobased felt types
Wool felt | Natural
Made from 100% pure Dutch sheep's wool, completely natural and locally produced.
Wool felt | Colored
Made from residual wool from the carpet industry, with natural shades and strong material properties.
Jute felt | Natural
Made from used coffee bags, a strong natural fibre with a warm golden brown appearance.
Wool felt | Natural
Our natural wool felt is made from 100% pure wool from Dutch sheep. Sheep wool is often considered a byproduct, but it's a unique material with strong functional properties. It's moisture-regulating and naturally flame-retardant.
The felt is a mono-material and completely natural. The wool is undyed and is created by the wool itself: a soft natural white shade that suits both modern and natural interiors.
Natural wool felt is suitable for various interior applications such as wall coverings, decorative applications and furniture upholstery (with the exception of seats).
Wool felt | Colored
This wool felt is made from residual wool from the carpet industry. During carpet production, high-quality wool remains, already dyed in natural shades. Instead of letting this waste stream go to waste, we process the wool into new wool felt.
The result is a strong and versatile material with a 94.5% recycled content. Wool's properties make it naturally flame-retardant, moisture-regulating, and durable.
Colored wool felt is suitable for wall coverings, decorative applications and furniture upholstery (with the exception of seats).
Jute felt | Natural
Jute felt is made from used coffee sacks used to transport coffee beans. These sacks are often discarded after one transport, even though jute is a strong and valuable natural fiber.
By processing this residual flow into felt, a distinctive material with a warm golden brown color is created. The material combines well with other interior materials such as wood, steel, concrete, and natural stone.
Jute felt is at home in a wide variety of interior applications, from hospitality and office environments to public spaces. It is suitable for wall coverings, acoustic applications, and decorative applications.
Application & processing
Our biobased felts are suitable for various interior applications, such as wall coverings, acoustic solutions, and decorative applications. Depending on the material, the felt can also be used in furniture upholstery, with the exception of seats.
The material is easy to work with: cutting with a sharp knife or laser, trimming with fabric scissors, and sewing or punching are all possible. For wall applications, the felt can be attached with a strong wallpaper adhesive.
