Dutch sheep's wool has been largely dismissed in recent years. This is entirely undeserved, according to the Dutch Wool Collective (HWC). The collective is committed to promoting the practical application of wool.

To put our words into action, we've developed a range of wool felt products in collaboration with i-did. The Desk Divider, Saida laptop sleeve, and Hafida storage unit combine a sleek design with the unique properties of Dutch sheep's wool.

Eternal sin

In recent years, sheep wool has often been viewed as a waste stream and treated as such. A real shame, as Mirthe and Janne agreed when they founded the Dutch Wool Collective.

To give practical experience, they developed De Wollen Werkplek within the Startup in Residence intergov programme of the Province of South Holland.

Wool in the workplace: very logical

Sheep wool is a biobased and versatile material. It offers insulation, acoustic dampening, and air purification, contributing to a healthy indoor climate. These properties are particularly effective in an office environment. Therefore, the HWC has created a workspace showcasing various applications of wool. For example, there are acoustic panels that are both filled and covered with wool.

i-did's designs are also incorporated into this wool workspace: the Desk Divider, Saida laptop sleeve, and Hafida storage unit. The use of sheep's wool gives these products a distinctive character.

In this pilot project, the Desk Divider was dyed with seaweed from South Holland beaches by Zeefier. The Wool Workplace is a first step in reusing Dutch sheep's wool in products and showcasing the material's versatility.

Collaboration with various partners

The Dutch Wool Collective ensures the perfect match between the wool offered and its potential application within the Dutch market. The collaboration with i-did reveals how the material is used in interior design products.
