It's finally here! The IKEA TILLVERKA collection is now available in all IKEA stores in the Netherlands. This collection is made from leftover Dutch IKEA textiles, which were then turned into recycled felt in collaboration with i-did. We'll tell you how this sustainable collaboration came about in this blog post!

Circular collection at IKEA

The TILLVERKA collection by IKEA and i-did revalues ​​IKEA's old textiles. Creating this collection allows i-did to coach people who have been unemployed for a long time, or have never worked, on their employment skills and help them find new jobs. "Processing old textiles into felt is a well-known process in the recycling industry; however, i-did makes designer felt. This Utrecht-based company supports people in the Netherlands who have been unemployed for a long time," according to IKEA.

ÅTERSTÄLLA collection

We've had several temporary collections at IKEA before. This started in 2016.

After a comprehensive audit in the months that followed, we were commissioned in mid-2016 for our first upcycling project: to create new products from discarded IKEA textiles for all Dutch stores! This upcycling concept, incidentally, originated with IKEA Sweden as a solution for unsold textiles. The ÅTERSTÄLLA collection was born and by November of that year, it was available in all 13 Dutch IKEA stores! All i-did participants were invited to the launch event at the Utrecht store. It was wonderful to see them in the spotlight; how happy and proud can you be when, after years of not working, you suddenly get to collaborate on such a wonderful project and receive recognition from IKEA for it.

We processed the remnants of the ÅTERSTÄLLA collection into felt and used it for our own collection in our webshop. The fresh felt color IKEA Textile has fun neon accents that add a playful touch!

IKEA Textile & IKEA Coworker

We've made two beautiful felt colors from old IKEA textiles. The IKEA Textile felt is made from leftovers from our previous IKEA collections. IKEA Coworker felt is made from old work clothes worn by IKEA employees. These have been turned into beautiful bags to give to IKEA employees as Christmas gifts!
