What inspiring days we had at MaterialDistrict! We look back with great pleasure on three days full of new encounters, great conversations, and enthusiastic reactions. Thank you for that!

MaterialDistrict is the place where designers, architects, and makers come together to discover new materials and exchange ideas. For i-did, it was the perfect opportunity to show them that we are stronger than ever, with a range of new materials and products.

New materials and collaborations

During the fair, visitors were introduced to various developments within i-did. For example, we presented our EverUse collection, consisting of four acoustic solutions: a room divider, desk divider, wall panel & baffle. A collaboration between i-did and TRIBOO, where the strength of EverUse lies in its well-thought-out material composition.

The core construction consists of Greengridz®, a lightweight furniture construction panel with a low CO₂ footprint. The acoustic filling is made of recycled fibers that provide sound absorption. The panels are finished with felt from recycled textiles or biobased felt.

Jute felt

We also introduced our jute felt made from used coffee sacks. Annually, thousands of jute sacks are used to transport coffee beans to Europe. After a single use, they often end up as waste, even though jute is a strong and valuable natural raw material.

Together with designer Sylvia Calvo, Roosmarie Ruigrok, Bo Zwarts, and with support from the Municipality of Amsterdam, we gave these coffee sacks a new life. The result is a biobased felt with a warm golden brown color that effortlessly combines with materials such as wood, steel, concrete, and natural stone.

Wool felt: Colored 

Additionally, we offered a first glimpse of Wool Felt Colored, a new wool felt that will be produced later this year in our factory in The Hague. The material is made from a residual stream from the carpet industry and consists of 94.5% recycled wool, resulting in a strong and versatile felt for applications such as wall coverings, decoration, and furniture upholstery.

i-did x Eijffinger

Another eye-catcher at the booth was our collaboration with Eijffinger. As the basis for their FELT wallcovering collection, Eijffinger uses our i-felt: felt made from recycled textiles. A great development is that our felt is now available again as wallpaper for consumers via Eijffinger's website and affiliated retailers.

The power of partnership at MaterialDistrict

This year, we didn't create the exhibition stand alone. Thanks to several partners, our stand had 'that little bit extra' this year. Thanks to ProjectChair for the red office chairs, Alvero for the beautiful duo desk, and the Greengridz® tabletop from Triboo.

It was also great to see that various other exhibitors had used our materials in their stands. Among others, Studio Überdutch, TRIBOO EU, and Iris Nijenhuis used i-did felt in their presentations on the exhibition floor.
